More Grappling With Bridgman —

Yeah, here's every other 'drawing from life' I did before giving up. Some are poses from his book, some are my attempts to apply his technique to drawing from ref. I hear he's got a pretty good figure drawing book as well. Maybe I'll check that out next. Anything to avoid actually drawing from life, apparently.

Life Drawing, Without the Life —

About a year ago, I got kind of pissed at myself that everything in my sketchbook that didn't suck ass was from reference. So I went out and bought a copy of Bridgman's Drawing From Life, in hopes that it would be a good first step towards breaking myself of the need to reference every little thing. Plus I also thought it would motivate me to get out and take some life drawing classes.

Of course what I ended up doing was copying the illustrations in the book in a vain attempt to understand his system and never doing any actual life drawing. Sigh.

Old Hands —

So, yeah, here's the rest of those hundred hands I did all those years ago. Hands are hard to draw.

Screen Grabs —

And now for some more recent stuff. I did these over the weekend -- I decided to pause a couple of my favorite movies and quickly sketch out the frame on the screen. Good practice for composition, if nothing else.

The Ghosts of Sketchbooks Past —

I used to have a lot of stuff from my sketchbook on my website, but my hope is that, in time, I'll be able to get all of that content over to this blog, and thereby have all of my digital works posted on my website and all of my crap sketches and paintings posted here. So here's the first batch of stuff from the old sketchbook. This stuff is almost 2 years old. If I ever get caught up to the here and now, I'll go even further back. This was the beginning of a series of 100 hands.

First Post! —

Welcome to my analog blog! I'm a digital artist, currently working for Marvel coloring comic books, but I'm not really happy with my skills as an all-around, traditional artist. Hence this blog. I plan to experiment (and hopefully find time to take a few classes) in various media, as well as dedicate at least 20 minutes a day to working in my sketchbook. I really want to take some life drawing classes as well. I'll post the results here (good and bad, to keep me honest). But I'll never post any of my digital art here. There's no school like the old school, baby!
